This grant programme is associated with the name of Ann Rylands, daughter of Sir Jules Thorn, who chaired the Trust for 24 years following the death of her father, and was responsible for introducing the concept of the Special Project in 1980.

It is the Trust’s major humanitarian grant scheme, offering charities the opportunity to bid for funding at a level which could have a significant beneficial impact on their work.
